ASB Awareness Week: Mediation

27/06/2025

Mediation 1

It’s ASB Awareness Week and here’s another success story, this one shows how meditation can be a powerful tool in resolving conflict.

In a quiet neighbourhood where he'd lived since 1988, an elderly gentleman found comfort in the familiar rhythms of his home. That changed when a new family moved in next door, bringing the energy and liveliness of four young children—two of whom had diagnosed special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Shortly after their arrival, he reported his concerns to us, highlighting persistent noise—children shouting, doors slamming, and raised voices.

Following our initial investigation, we learned more about the family’s circumstances, including the challenges faced by two of the children. We shared this insight with the elderly neighbour but he struggled to understand.

We needed a more collaborative resolution, and mediation was arranged. This provided a safe and structured environment for both households to share their perspectives and explore constructive paths forward.

The mediation proved a turning point. The elderly gentleman gained valuable insight into the daily challenges faced by his neighbours and developed a newfound empathy for the children’s behaviours. In turn, the family received support and guidance to help better manage high-energy situations within the home.

Thanks to open dialogue and mutual understanding, the situation resolved peacefully. No further complaints have been raised, and the case has been closed. What began as a point of tension evolved into a testament to the power of communication, respect, and community support.

We can help if you’re a victim of ASB. It all starts with telling us about it.
