ASB Awareness Week: Resolution and Mediation Success

27/06/2025

Resolution And Success 1

It’s ASB Awareness Week and today’s story is a little different.

It shows how ASB can affect people in different ways, especially if they have been affected by trauma. All our officers have received training to recognise trauma in residents and have the tools to treat them with sensitivity and respect.

We received a report from a resident who had been disturbed by persistent drilling sounds during the early hours of the morning and throughout the night. Evidence was provided, and we attended the complainant’s property during the day to witness the disturbances. The noise was confirmed, and a tenancy warning was issued to the perpetrator.

During our work, it became clear that the complainant was experiencing significant mental health challenges, deeply rooted in past trauma. Everyday household sounds—such as drilling, birdsong, and general activity—had become increasingly overwhelming and distressing.

Recognising the need for a holistic, supportive approach, the team made a referral to supportive agencies to help the complainant develop tools to manage noise sensitivity.

With encouragement from a support worker, the complainant began taking part in community activities—an important step toward social reconnection and personal wellbeing. Their mental health has also improved.

This case highlights the importance of both accountability and compassion. Thanks to swift action, open communication, and tailored support, the issue was resolved without further complaint.

We can help if you’re a victim of ASB. It all starts with telling us about it.
