We wrote to you in July to tell you about our intention to bring the repairs service in-house.
We're pleased to let you know that our plans have now been formally approved, bringing us one step closer to creating a more connected, responsive and resident-focused repairs service.
At the moment, repairs to your home are carried out by Equans. In 2027, most of this work is planned to move back in-house, bringing repairs and maintenance services directly into Manchester City Council.
This means that many of the operatives who currently work for Equans would transfer to Manchester City Council and become part of our own repairs team.
What does this mean for you?
- You'll continue to report repairs in exactly the same way you do now
- Most repairs will be carried out by our own Manchester City Council staff
- We'll have greater control over appointments and service delivery
- We'll be able to provide a more joined-up, reliable and personal service
- We'll be better placed to respond to residents' needs and make improvements based on your feedback
- For now, there's nothing you need to do, and your current service will continue as normal.
We're now beginning to consult with residents on these exciting plans. Your views will help shape the future of the repairs service and ensure we build something we can all be proud of.
There will be plenty of opportunities to have your say through our social media channels, website, emails and local offices.
Looking ahead
We are delighted at the prospect of welcoming repairs operatives into the Manchester City Council team.
Bringing everyone together is a fantastic step forward. It will help us create a stronger, more connected service, deliver better value for money and, most importantly, provide an even better experience for residents.
This is an exciting opportunity to build a repairs service that is truly centred around our communities, with residents at the heart of everything we do.
