As Halloween and Bonfire Night approach, we know many of us look forward to colourful skies and cosy gatherings. But sadly, this time of year can also bring more incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) — especially unsafe bonfires and fireworks going off in the wrong place or time.
If you spot or experience anything concerning involving bonfires or fireworks, here’s how you can help:
1. Let us know
As your landlord we can act to keep things safe and respectful in your block or street.
2. Contact Greater Manchester Police (GMP)
If the behaviour risks people’s safety, or involves criminal actions (e.g., deliberate nuisance, possession or misuse of fireworks).
GMP leads Operation Treacle, a seasonal multi-agency campaign with the fire service and local councils to tackle ASB, dangerous fires, and firework misuse around Halloween and Bonfire Night.
Under Operation Treacle, patrols made up of police officers, firefighters and community resolution staff work together to:
- Respond to reports quickly
- Identify and remove unsafe bonfires
- Issue safety advice about fireworks
- Target hotspots and deter repeat incidents
3. Notify Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS)
If you see a fire hazard or an unsafe blaze that could threaten people or property.
Your reports make a real difference. Together, we can help make sure everyone can enjoy the season — safely and peacefully.
