Zero Carbon Home Improvements

We’re working hard to make sure the homes we look after are as energy efficient as possible.

This is to support Manchester’s aim to become a zero-carbon city by 2038. The energy saving measures we have installed are not only saving the plant, they are saving pennies too.

From solar PV panels generating free electricity to cavity wall insulation making homes cosier in the winter there are lots of reasons residents are saying yes to a greener home.

In 2024/25 alone we spent £2.5m making council homes more energy efficient.

Our work included:

  • Replacing old windows and doors for new ones
  • Upgrading heating systems
  • New external wall insulation
  • Replacing old gas boilers with air source heat pumps
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • Installing ventilation systems

Air Source Heat Pumps

Some of the newest upgrades we’ve been working on are replacing old boilers with cleaner, greener, air source heat pumps.

By investing in energy-efficient solutions, we are helping residents reduce energy costs while contributing to a more sustainable future.

We’ve heard from several residents who have already made the switch to air source heat pumps—and they couldn’t be happier with the results...

Marina and Phillip: "I'm not a youngster, up on technology, but I find it really easy to use."

Spyridon: “The bills are a lot lower than the previous heating system”

Mehareina: "I like the heat pump, it’s more friendly for the environment."

Dave: "My gas would've been £180, but it's dropped to £17."

Peter and Caroline: "We have no gas in the property now, and the bills are much easier to cope with."
